If i had seen this question two years ago, I would have said that I wanted to be working as a costume designer in any major city, or touring around the world with Cirque du Soleil as a wardrobe technician. However, now as I am about to graduate college, my answer has changed quite drastically. I would very much love to be working as either of those, especially something that would allow me to travel, but maybe I just have a more realistic outlook on what my career could be. I started working in Alaska at a fish processing plant last summer and will do that again this upcoming summer and most likely the year after that as well. This short summer gig allows me to make a lot of money in a small amount of time, allowing me to work more part-time during the rest of the year and not worry about costuming having to pay all my bills. It feels weird to have no real plans for the next five years as I usually have some idea of what is to come next. I don't feel too scared to think this way mostly because I am still young and this is when I can get away with living a little more spontaneously.
Right now, my dream is that I will find some work over in Europe when I am traveling over there next fall and I can take that as it comes. Ideally I would find a job having something to do with costuming, as I do love it, but I would love to experience different worlds before I choose where to settle down. I kind of like the idea of my dream job being unknown; I'll know it when I find it.
